लक्ष्मी माता की कथा
समुद्र मंथन और लक्ष्मी माता का प्राकट्य
प्राचीन काल में जब देवताओं और असुरों के बीच अमृत प्राप्त करने के लिए समुद्र मंथन हुआ, तो मंदराचल पर्वत को मथानी और वासुकी नाग को रस्सी बनाया गया।
समुद्र मंथन से कई दिव्य वस्तुएँ और देवता निकले, जैसे:
कामधेनु (इच्छा पूरी करने वाली गाय)
कल्पवृक्ष (इच्छा पूर्ति करने वाला वृक्ष)
ऐरावत हाथी, चंद्रमा, और धन्वंतरि (अमृत कलश के साथ)
इन्हीं के बीच प्रकट हुईं एक अत्यंत सुंदर देवी, जिनके हाथों में सोने का कलश, और कमल के फूल पर आसीन स्वरूप था। यह थीं माँ लक्ष्मी, जो समस्त संसार की धन, ऐश्वर्य और समृद्धि की देवी बनीं।
उन्होंने भगवान विष्णु को अपना पति चुना और सदा के लिए उनके साथ रहने लगीं।
लक्ष्मी माता और स्वच्छता की महिमा
एक दिन लक्ष्मी माता पृथ्वी पर भ्रमण करने निकलीं। उन्होंने देखा कि कुछ घर स्वच्छ, रोशन और सजे हुए हैं, जबकि कुछ गंदे और अस्त-व्यस्त।
माँ लक्ष्मी ने केवल स्वच्छ और सुंदर घरों में प्रवेश किया और वहाँ धन-समृद्धि का आशीर्वाद दिया। जो घर गंदे थे, वहाँ से वे लौट गईं।
तभी से यह परंपरा है कि दीवाली पर घर की सफाई और दीप प्रज्वलन किया जाता है, ताकि लक्ष्मी जी प्रसन्न होकर घर में निवास करें।
लक्ष्मी और अलक्ष्मी की कथा
एक अन्य कथा के अनुसार, लक्ष्मी माता की एक बहन अलक्ष्मी भी हैं, जो दरिद्रता और दुर्भाग्य की देवी मानी जाती हैं।
कहा जाता है कि जहाँ गंदगी, आलस्य, झूठ और असत्य होता है, वहाँ अलक्ष्मी का वास होता है।
और जहाँ साफ-सफाई, मेहनत, ईमानदारी और भक्ति होती है, वहाँ लक्ष्मी माता निवास करती हैं।
कथा का सार (मौरल):
माँ लक्ष्मी स्वच्छता और सत्यता को प्रिय मानती हैं।
मेहनत, विनम्रता और ईमानदारी से लक्ष्मी की कृपा प्राप्त होती है।
दीपावली, लक्ष्मी जी के स्वागत का पर्व है — इसलिए घर साफ, सुंदर और उज्जवल किया जाता है।
जहाँ माँ लक्ष्मी आती हैं, वहाँ धन, सुख, शांति और समृद्धि रहती है।
Laxmi Mata Katha (Story of Goddess Lakshmi)
The Origin of Goddess Lakshmi:
Long ago, during the time of the Samudra Manthan (Churning of the Ocean), the gods (Devas) and demons (Asuras) decided to churn the cosmic ocean to obtain Amrit (nectar of immortality). They used Mount Mandara as the churning rod and Vasuki, the king of serpents, as the rope.
As the churning continued, many divine objects and beings emerged from the ocean:
Kamadhenu (wish-fulfilling cow)
Airavata (Indra’s white elephant)
Kalpavriksha (wish-fulfilling tree)
Chandra (the moon)
Dhanvantari (the divine physician with the pot of Amrit)
But among all these, emerged the most radiant and divine being — Goddess Lakshmi, seated on a lotus flower, holding a pot of gold and showering coins.
Her beauty and glow mesmerized everyone. She chose Lord Vishnu, the protector of the universe, as her eternal consort. From that day on, she became the Goddess of wealth, prosperity, and good fortune.
Laxmi and the Importance of Cleanliness:
Another popular story says that Goddess Lakshmi loves cleanliness and discipline. Once she visited Earth and wandered into a village. She noticed that some homes were clean and bright, while others were dirty and neglected.
She entered only the clean homes, blessing them with wealth and happiness. The untidy homes were left without any blessings.
From then on, it became a custom to clean homes during Diwali and light lamps to welcome Lakshmi.
Lakshmi and Alakshmi:
According to another tale, Lakshmi has a twin sister, Alakshmi, the goddess of poverty and misfortune.
It is believed that if one is lazy, untidy, dishonest, or disrespectful, Alakshmi enters their home.
But if one is clean, hardworking, generous, and respectful, Lakshmi stays in their home and protects them from Alakshmi.
Moral & Significance:
Cleanliness is godliness – Lakshmi resides only in pure and peaceful homes.
Hard work and honesty invite success and abundance.
Welcoming Lakshmi with devotion brings prosperity in both material and spiritual life.
Diwali, the festival of lights, celebrates her arrival and blessings on Earth.
